COLOR GUARD

The Silver Regiment Color Guard is the non-musical section that provides the strongest visual support to the marching band’s performance. The color guard interprets the music that the marching band is playing via the synchronized spinning of flags, sabres, rifles, other pieces of equipment, and through contemporary dance. Components of the Silver Regiment color guard include movement, visual effect, fluidity of choreography with the music, coordination of all members, marching the drill, and the use of equipment (e.g. flags, rifles, and sabres).
During the marching season, the guard will be assessed a base amount of $350 – the same dues payment made by all Silver Regiment members. In addition, the guard will pay approximately $250 for additional items such as field uniform, dance shoes, practice-uniforms, warm-up suit, tote bag, and gloves – all of which the guard members keep. Most of these items are a ‘one-time’ only purchase during the guard members’ rookie year, and will not be re-assessed after the first year in the program. Many fundraisers are made available to each member of the Silver Regiment to help offset these costs.
WINTER GUARD

After marching season is over, the color guard begins an indoor, competitive season as the Silver Regiment Winterguard. The winterguard competes in the FFCC and WGI Circuits. Winterguard brings music to life through performance in a competitive format. Unlike color guard, which performs outdoors on a football field (and is part of the marching band), winter guard is performed indoors, in a gym or indoor arena, during the winter season. Winterguard is a combination of the use of flags, sabers, mock rifles, and other equipment, as well as dance and other interpretive movement. It is an exciting world of performance and entertainment; a place where pageantry involves an array of equipment, movement, and skill.
There will be a separate cost for the winterguard season. This fee is in addition to the assessment for the marching season. Another uniform may be required, depending on the style of show chosen by the designers. Typically the cost for this season will total approximately $200. All costs for the Silver Regiment Winterguard will be included in this total assessment. Again, separate fundraisers are made available to each member of the winterguard to help offset these costs.
* It is mandatory for each student to commit for the entire year to this activity. Unless separate auditions are held for winterguard, a student may not participate in only a half of semester in either group.*
* The Silver Regiment Color Guard/ Silver Regiment Winterguard function under the bylaws of the Lake Howell Band Parents Association. All rules and guidelines that are stated in the Lake Howell Band Handbook apply to both groups.*
