The Lake Howell Percussion Ensemble consists of students wanting to strive for excellence in all areas of percussion. During the first semester, percussionists will focus on Marching Percussion and will be together in one class.

In Marching Percussion, the students will be part of either the Battery Percussion or Front Ensemble. The Battery Percussion is made up students wanting to strive for excellence in rudimentary percussion.

The Front Ensemble is comprised of students who want to strive for excellence in keyboard and auxiliary percussion. The Battery Percussion is selected by audition only during the previous Spring Drumline Auditions.

At the end of the first semester, the Percussion Class will focus on Percussion Solos and Ensembles for the upcoming Solo and Ensemble Festival. During the second semester, students are placed in either the Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble class, depending on their level of musicianship.

Students will study Concert Percussion only during this time. Students are encouraged to participate in Solo and Ensemble Festival. Also, students are encouraged to audition for All-County and All-State Bands.

Students will be graded on participation, playing tests, and written tests. The Lake Howell Percussion Ensembles have consistently received superior ratings at all FBA District and State Solo and Ensemble Festivals. In addition, the Lake Howell Marching Percussion Section has won “Best Percussion” at numerous competitions.

Note: All ensembles perform in concerts put on by the Lake Howell Band Program. Typically, the Band Program performs a Winter Concert, Pre-Festival Concert, and the “Shades of Silver” Spring Concert. In addition, ensembles will perform in adjudicated FBA Festivals. These events are mandatory and dates for these events will be given far in advance.

Festivals and Concerts should be made a priority and students and parents should not schedule ANY other events for those dates. Failure to do so may result in the expulsion of the student from the Lake Howell Band Program. Only family emergencies will be excused.
